Arianna
Struggling against the current was not my style but somehow I had found myself stuck in that groove, a groove that seemed to be gaining momentum and felt like it was paralysing me. I had read literally hundreds of success stories, stories of rags to riches or of famous people, people who I respected and learnt that the majority of their lives had somehow ‘fallen’ into place. And I had developed this warped belief that there were a limited amount of opportunities that were divvied up at birth and doors that open at certain critical times in ones life. It was increasingly apparent I was starting to lose faith in myself, and worse,…

Rianne
Washington Square park was abuzz, nothing out of the ordinary as it was a swelteringly hot late summers day. Rianne darted, weaving in and out of the already crowds of milling people. She had woken up much earlier than her routine Wednesday where she normally would hop on her bike and ride madly across town to the small florist shop she sometimes worked part time in over the summer months. Rianne could hardly contain herself and hadn’t really slept the previous night. She was nervous as she was heading to an early morning coffee date. Rianne’s signature look was animal print, but particularly one proud leopard print outfit which already had a few…

Asher’s Haiku
Asher leaned in awkwardly to listen to what the other boy was trying to say. Although the boy’s whispering was muffled by the sirens constant whirring and screeching, it was now registering how severe a strike to the head his new friend had received. The boy seemed quite confused and disorientated and the gash that now adorned his forehead was confirming that this was very real. That evening had been a haiku kind of moment for the two boys. – excerpt from writings by Fiona Maclean

FEATURED in Saatchi Art’s Wanderlust: Spotlight on Australian Artists
Such a privilege to be chosen and featured in one of Saatchi Art’s Collections. My painting ‘Birdie’ is featured in Saatchi Art’s Wanderlust: Spotlight on Australian Artists collection on Saatchi Art’s home page. Birdie is one of my oil paintings on canvas, measuring 20 x 16in. She is all about my love of nature, nostalgia and like the ‘Shroud of Turin’ she is surrounded by mystery. The original painting ‘Birdie’ is available for purchase directly and prints are available through Saatchi Art. For more info and artwork head here or to Fiona’s Saatchi Art collection.

INTERVIEW in TaintedGlory.co.uk
Imperfect, sometimes flawed. That is beauty to me. Not airbrushed perfection’ Fiona Maclean is a painter, illustrator, makeup artist, photographer & writer based in Sydney, Australia. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your art practice? Why and how did you become an artist? I was an exceptionally shy person growing up and found that I felt connected to people by painting people especially faces. It started out more as a hobby and what gave me a lot of joy to studying graphic design, makeup and fine art. Although I am mostly self-taught when it comes to fine art as my studies were cut short due to family tragedy. The inspiration behind my…

Met Gala’s ‘Heavenly Bodies’ inspiration for my fashion Illustration
This year the Met Gala celebrities became beautiful works of art, inspired by the opening of the Costume Institutes annual fashion exhibition ‘Heavenly Bodies’ which opens May 10th 2018 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The hair, the makeup the costumes were pure works of art. As I work as a freelance fashion illustrator and costume illustrator I am inspired by the world of fashion, photography, art and film. The above fashion illustration is inspired by the glamour and beauty of the Met gala, twilight silhouettes and the beautiful fashion photography by Paolo Roversi whose work features in Vogue magazines from around the world. For more of Fiona’s original artwork and prints available here.

Where my love begun for Fashion Illustration…Antonio Lopez
I moved briefly into an apartment, one of my first apartments with my boyfriend at the time and discovered the previous tenant had left an Antonio Lopez Fashion illustration book. That was where my love begun for Fashion Illustration…legendary Antonio Lopez. To me Antonio was more than just a Fashion illustrator but a real Artist. When I read about him it seemed that he didn’t believe that he would make a living exclusively by being an Artist so he did Fashion Illustration. In my opinion he was one of the best. His illustration and portraits are truly beautiful, inspiring, capturing that time yet still contemporary. His muses, Jerry Hall, Grace Jones, Jessica Lange,…
